Ellis County's Rich History
Ellis County has a rich history, and it was an important agricultural center since the middle of the 19th century 2. Cotton production was one of the main industries in the county, and it was one of the state’s leading producers of cotton 2. However, today, cotton production has dwindled in volume and economic importance and has been supplanted by livestock production as the principal agricultural industry 2.
The chief mineral of economic value is Eagle Ford Clay, which is worked for brick, although oil and gas production exists to a limited degree in the extreme southeastern part of the county 2. Various manufacturing and industrial concerns operate throughout the county, but are found in greatest concentration in the northern part close to Dallas 2.

The museum is open from Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM 3.
